Live Everyday Like You’re In Hawaii
When you have the same daily or even weekly routines, it can be hard to find things that amaze you. I work a 9-5 job (which is technically 7:30-5:30 eww) and I often find myself anxiously awaiting the weekends. It’s great to have things to look forward to but if you’re always looking ahead you can miss a lot in the present. While I am not always as conscious of it as I would like to be, I try to be more aware of the beauty in my daily life.
I love a good sunset, but there is something so beautiful to me about a sunrise. When I honeymooned in Hawaii I got to watch the sunrise every day because I was awake due to the time change. I would sit on the balcony of our hotel room and watch it shine over the mountains and slowly touch the ocean. Then I’d wake up my husband and we would go have coffee and breakfast at a table by the ocean. Those are some of my fondest memories… being up before the island came to life, completely at peace, with my husband by my side, sitting in amazement.
Just thinking about it makes me wish I was in Hawaii right now! Staring at a picture from my trip on my desktop background doesn’t help much either.
As great as it was, I know every morning can’t be like it was waking up in paradise. I may grumble as I hit the snooze button multiple times in the morning, but I am definitely much more of an early bird than a night owl. In my daily rush to get out the door in the morning, I can’t help but slow down when I see shades of pink and purple creeping in through the window. No matter how many times I see the sunrise, I never lose my amazement in it, no matter where I wake up.
Overall I am amazed by creation! There is so much beauty all around us and I am truly awestruck when I think about how God spoke it all into existence. The ocean, the stars in the sky, rainfall, the changing of seasons… those are just some of my favorite things, but there is vastly more than that around us. You know what else God created? You and I! Be amazed by the people around you. They are worth far more than any “thing” in your life!
I really hope that with the changing seasons upon us, as cool mornings turn into warm afternoons (depending on where you live), we all take a few minutes a day to slow down and find the amazement around us. Whether it’s raining or the sun is shining, be thankful for another day. Be grateful for the people in your life and let them know how amazing they are. It may just brighten both your days.
